Requirements for Accomodation

 

I. Building Construction

  1. The headroom of the sleeping and communal quarters has to be at least 2.30 m. In the attic, the minimum headroom has to apply to at least one third of the floor space of every room.
  2. The floors have to be covered with flooring that is warm to the foot.
  3. Walls and roofs have to be weatherproof.
  4. The outside doors have to be sealed and lockable.
  5. The windows have to be sealed and have fixtures to open them. There has to be the possibility of sufficient airing.
  6. In case of an accommodation in the winter season, from 1 October to 30 March, there has to be a sufficient possibility for heating the rooms.

II. Living Quarters

Living quarters should correspond with the following standards:

  1. The number of people per room must not exceed six.
  2. The sleeping space per person has to be at least 6 sq.m.
  3. Separate sleeping quarters are to be made available for men and women.
  4. There has to be an own bed for every resident. There may only be a maximum of two beds above one another.
  5. The fittings of a bed include: a mattress, a pillow, woollen blankets in sufficient numbers and bed linen.
  6. Every employee accepted newly to the accommodation shall receive clean bed linen.
  7. There has to be a possibility for keeping clothes (locker) as well as a seat and a space at a table for every resident.
  8. There has to be sufficient lighting by electrical fittings, which correspond with the safety regulations, in the communal and sleeping quarters.

III. Sanitary facilities

  1. The sanitary facilities should feature floors and walls that are made from such material that may be hosed down for cleaning purposes.
  2. One toilet with sufficient ventilation and lighting should be available for every 8 people. One shower (cold and hot water) should be available for every 10 people.
  3. In order to avoid fungal disease, wooden board walks may not be used in the bathrooms.
  4. There has to be a suitable facility for laundering and drying clothes.

IV. Kitchen

In case there is no canteen, there has to be one cooking area (in a separate room) for every two residents as well as an appropriate possibility for storing food.

V. General

  1. There has to be an adequate First-Aid station at the enterprise. It has to be easily accessible in case of need and has to be protected against any contamination.
  2. The above points are to be regarded as an indication for the structural condition of the accommodation. In case of existing facilities, slight deviations may be tolerated. There is no legal claim of the employees to be allocated an accommodation of a certain type and size or respective furnishings exceeding the items outlined above.
  3. It is the responsibility of the employer that the accommodation is built, fitted and occupied in such a manner that neither the health nor the moral principles of the employees are infringed on.
